Mornington Peninsula Cruise 2015 |
ADDED BY:Webmaster, Monday November 23 2015 at 8:27:34 PM |
A cloudy but rain free morning saw 22 Cobras lined up at the Peninsula Link service centre in Baxter for a 9.30am start. Craig provided a driver and co-driver briefing complete with written directions, an event first!
We headed south east and skirted around the edge of Somerville and Bittern, through Merricks North, Red Hill and Main Ridge taking in the magnificent rural landscape of the southern Mornington Peninsula before stopping at Flinders for coffee. A quick tour of Flinders harbour and along Golf Links Road to test drivers skills at navigating speed humps revealed stunning coastal views along the edge of the National Park. We drove the sensational corkscrew and through Cape Schanck to Boneo and on to Dromana and the Port Phillip Bay coastline via Arthur's Seat. Point Nepean Road delivered us to Sorrento with water views the whole way . The historic Sorrento Hotel turned on blue sky and sunshine in addition to our hosts Rob and Miles providing exclusive Cobra parking and a truly great lunch with post lunch drinks on the deck with views to the Bay. Thank you to the Hotel Sorrento team. Great to see some new Cobras and first time Peninsula cruise participants. Thanks to Craig for organising an enjoyable day. Andrew |
September 20 2015. Wings and Wheels Maryborough |
ADDED BY:Webmaster, Thursday October 15 2015 at 7:34:16 PM |
When Tony who attended in his Cobra and won his category in the quarter mile sprints in 2014 outlined this years Maryborough Wings and Wheels two day event I quickly added it to my calendar.
A quick fly up to Maryborough in the bi-plane a few weeks before revealed Maryborough airports two runways are an ideal location for the Austin 7 Clubs Wings and Wheels event. The fifty acre site is carved out of the trees and landscape and is mainly red dirt with two clear scars called runways that criss-cross with a network of bitumen taxiways. Just the dust bowl to take open top cars for a show and shine I thought. However the local Rotary and Lions Clubs had gone to lengths to ensure dust was kept to a minimum. The Rotary and Lions Club had food areas set up along with a mix of coffee, ice cream and hamburger vans all reasonably priced. Over 300 cars were displayed on the raised taxi ways opposite the hangars. A mix of everything from vintage, classic to Street Rods were displayed. The non stop quarter mile Sprints kept the crowd there entertained. Our club was represented by Tony and Rob with their Cobras. When not watching sprints the many visitors wandered through open hangars and the aircraft museum. A highlight of the day that saw all eyes looking skyward was a breath taking aerial display by a Nanchang Warbird with an aerobatics and smoke routine. Event coordinators promising that there will be more aerobatic displays at next years Wings and Wheels event. Over time I think this event will become as big as the Geelong Speed Trials and once again well worth adding to your calendar. :) Bernie |
