This years winter was the coldest for decades and Saturdays welcome sun and 20 degree forecast made our trip from Geelong to the 'Fuel Cars and Coffee' in Port Melbourne nearly bearable. There is something about a 7am start and the wind factor at 100km/h the crispness and fresh chill to clear your head in an open car.

Todd my son was in the 356 Speedster and I followed in the Cobra as we had planned to pick up a few friends and join other Cobra Club members in Port Melbourne.

This is the second Fuel event I have been too and I was not surprised with the variety of cars and bikes at the event. The Cafe Racer bike culture is certainly growing in Australia and the examples on display were indicative of the quality bikes we are building in Australia.

Well known film actor Eric Bana made the journey - from just a few streets over - in his red Ford Coupe to join the many enthusiasts at the Fuel Cars and Coffee day.

Once again, a great event drawing a mix of Ratrods, Cafe Racer bikes, Low Riders, Street Rods along with a large contingency of Japanese cars. Our own clubs seven Cobras added to the variety of cars and bikes.

The attached Photos taken on Saturday are a small mix of the cars in attendance.

Fuel events held monthly in Fennel Street Port Melbourne is one to place on your calendar as its growing and attracting a new group described by local newspaper journalists and editors as 'young hip trendy auto enthusiasts'. Mmm and a few not so young hip and trendy Cobra owners. See you there.

Elfin Heritage Centre and shed run

Despite arctic conditions two days before the winter solstice, Cobras were out in great numbers for the Elfin Heritage Centre run in Moorabbin. Braving the cold conditions were about fifteen cobras, a GT 40 and Bernies Porsche 356 Roadster and a 911 Porsche arrived in Moorabbin. Most of us had met up for coffee (and to get warm ) at the Dak Dak Cafe where the VW Club ensured an interesting mix of VWs and Cobras were on display to the large group of winter time motoring enthusiasts.

The Elfin Heritage Centre is a must see for anyone interested in motor sport history in Australia and club members were fascinated with the Elfin story and large display of everything Elfin.

After a thorough look at the Elfin display we traveled a short distance to Fat Bobs Bar and Grill for lunch where the cold conditions were temporarily managed by sitting in a warm restaurant and eating large hamburgers!

Another great club event and further evidence of the strong motor vehicle enthusiast culture which waits to be explored and experienced in Melbourne.
